GENERATION Y EMPLOYMENT AND CONSUMER CONFIDENCE

I think there are several factors that exemplify Generation Y employment and consumer confidence.

1. Calculated Risk's comments which include overall unemployment at 4.9%, participation is increasing, average hourly wages are increasing, part time employment due to economic reasons is decreasing, and those unemployed for over 26 weeks is decreasing.
Calculated Risk Blog solid employment report

2. I have a friend who had been at the same job for 5 years. She saved up enough money to quit her job and she traveled for a year. After the year was up, she came back to her old company and renegotiated a better position for more money. Not a bad way to come back from a year long vacation.

3. I have another friend who enjoys hiking. He enjoys so hiking so much so that he dedicates about every free weekend to hiking in the Sierra. For him, that is about a 7 hour drive. He too has been in his job for 5 years. Instead of trying to negotiate for more money, better position or switching companies, he opts for the flexibility that he has on his Fridays that allows him to enjoy the time to drive to what he really loves, which is hiking in the Sierra. He has confidence in his position

4. And my favorite, just for fun, indicator is an oldie but a goodie.

Target had some consumer confidence if they decided to produce and sell ugly Christmas sweaters.
